A Different World is a Cosby Show spinoff created by Bill Cosby. Originally meant to be a launching pad for Lisa Bonet, ADW went on to star Jasmine Guy as Southern belle Whitley Gilbert, sending Bonet back to Cosby. ADW is credited for the noticeable spike of black students enrolling in historically black colleges and universities in the late 80s and early 90s. Season one is available on DVD, but the season two release was recently canceled.
