Harpo's Juke Joint:Frequently asked questions
From Harpo's Juke Joint
General
I'd like to buy some ad space on your site.
Sorry, but Harpo's is and always will be ad-free for as long as we can keep it that way. But if your site is related to black visual media, let us know and we may stick you in the sidebar for free!
Why is the minimum donation to Harpo's $5 if I use Amazon?
Because Amazon takes out $0.30 for every transaction, plus 2.9%.
But there's no minimum donation if I use PayPal.
That's because we couldn't figure out how to set one.
Editing
What style do you use for citations? APA, MLA or Chicago?
MLA Citation is the style that is most frequently taught in high school, usually around research report time. Most of you will probably remember a blue or gold MLA style handbook. Associated Press and Chicago Style writing is usually unfamiliar to non-journalists.
If you guys are such sticklers for MLA style, why do you use postal codes to abbreviate states?
Because the APA/MLA style abbreviations are just stupid. And not because we can't ever remember what they are.
I see something wrong with the page, but I'm to lazy to actually edit it myself. Who do I contact so that s/he can fix it instead?
Nobody. That's what the "edit" option is for. That's what having a wiki is all about. It's not so you can tell someone else what is wrong and have them fix it. ANYONE can edit any unprotected page here at Harpo's. If you just have to tell somebody, leave a message on the page's talk page. Of course, you'll have to register to do that, so you may as well just edit the page.
What if the page is protected?
Go to the "discussion" portion of the page and leave a message there. A sysop will fix it.
What is the template for the small, numbered footnotes to appear?
At the bottom of your page, paste:
==Notes== <div class="references-small"> <references /> </div>
We'll have a whole tutorial over references eventually.
