Citation terms

Ibid and op crit:

  • Ibid: Short for ibidem, Latin for "in the same place". When you're writing out your references and you're referring to the same title over and over, list the title once. After that, as long as you're referring to the same title, use "ibid", and the proper page numbers if needed. Once you name a different source, you'll need to name the original source again in your list.
  • Op. cit.: Short for the Latin opus citatum, Latin for "the work cited". Use "op. cit." when you are referring to a reference that is not immediately preceding your last reference. In other words, if you've listed it once at any time, any subsequent reference needs an "op. cit."

Entertainment terms

  • Released: the date that a theatrical film or play was released in the United States
  • Spoiler: Spoilers are comments that give away the plot of a movie, play, book, etc. Just about every movie, TV show, video room, etc. will contain major spoilers. If you just want to remain in the dark about a particular film or show, do not read the article!
  • Total (US) gross: the amount of money that a theatrical release made during its United States run.

Terms we use at Harpo's

  • Language warning: While Harpo's does not censor for language (nor do we edit context for minors), we will occasionally tag an entry when we find the language to be particularly crude or offensive.

Mediawiki terms

  • Protected page: a page that can only be edited by sysops. Very few pages here are protected, because protected pages negate the purpose of having a wiki. If you see something here that is protected, chances are that it's a template or a portal. Those are protected to make sure that someone doesn't accidentally tinker with the settings, which would cause other things to shift and change.
