Movie of the Month

  • Civil rights activist Myrlie Evers, played by Whoopi Goldberg, celebrates the triumphant end to a 30-year quest for justice in the closing scenes of Ghosts of Mississippi. This film is based on the 1963 assassination of Medgar Evers, considered by many to be the father of the civil rights movement.

Did you know...?

  • Fred Williamson played in the 1970 film M*A*S*H as an Army surgeon named Spearchucker Jones (we're not making that up!). Spearchucker was carried into the television series of the same name (played by Timothy Brown), but was pulled when it was discovered that there were no black Army surgeons during the Korean War.
  • On the special edition DVD of Baby Boy, Snoop Dogg reveals that in the scene where he kicks over Jojo's pillow fort, he (as Rodney) was supposed to be kicking the child. Snoop refused, and had to be coaxed into doing the pillow-kicking scene. Why? Snoop didn't want to be portrayed as being mean to children.
  • Pam Grier auditioned for the role of Jody in Pulp Fiction. Although director Quention Tarantino thought she did a fantastic jon, he couldn't see the former Foxy Brown being pushed around the way the character does. So he waited, and gave her another role in another film - Jackie Brown, the movie that put Grier back in the limelight.
